Let's Handle Business — “Duval Designs”

Print & Publication, Motion, Social Media • Made in Photoshop and After Effects

For the “Duval Designs” Game Day poster contest, this project has with two versions: one static, 18x24'' poster, and a motion poster. Both represent a personified, cut-and-paste take on a popular sports slang, bringing together fans for game day.

Mockups & Hype Reel

PROCESS

The main inspiration for the poster were 90s magazine ads that feature exaggerated features and camera-angles, as well as Swiss Design that uses grids with large type. Since the idea of a jaguar being in a suit was already far-fetched, merging it with equally-dynamic inspiration felt correct. It also connects with the fast-paced nature of sports in general.

Originally, the jaguar was supposed to have its back turned, revealing the number 16 (quarterback Trevor Lawrence's number). This was changed to help lead the viewer's eye better, starting from the jaguar's head, to "HANDLE," to the football, and ending on "BUSINESS."

To make the hands, texture from a jaguar's fur was sampled. I started with a photo of myself, then used a combination of blending modes, layer adjustments and masking, to maintain the dynamic shadows of the original picture.
