ESPN Ident

Motion, Television • Made in After Effects

Using paint splatter and sweeping brush strokes that call back to face paint, this ident dedicates itself to soccer fans.

PROCESS

For this ident, the idea was to represent and thank the fans who are there to watch every game of their favorite team. Different things that fans usually do, such as wear team jerseys, paint or tattoo themselves, or yell out team chants, were the main inspirations for this ident.

Styleframes and a moodboard were made to figure out the direction this ident should go.

At first, multiple sports were going to be depicted, however the ident needed to be quick. Soccer was chosen since football and basketball are commonly talked about on ESPN.

The initial styleframes also lacked a "sports edge;" appearing too soft and relaxed. Extra paint splatter, more staccato-like movement, and the use of a 3D camera solved this issue.
